In a recent development that has stirred political discourse in Rivers State, reports emerged about the appointment of Dr. Samuel Nwanosike as the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA). Nwanosike, a former chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, is widely recognized as a staunch loyalist of former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The purported appointment was said to have been approved by the State's Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd.), and announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika.

However, the Rivers State Government has officially refuted these claims. In a statement signed by SSG Professor Worika, the government categorically denied the appointment, urging residents to disregard the reports as false. The statement emphasized that all official communications from the Office of the Administrator are disseminated through appropriate channels, and any information outside these channels should be treated with skepticism.

This development comes amid ongoing political tensions in the state, with factions aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike vying for influence. Nwanosike's alleged appointment was perceived by some as a strategic move by Wike's camp to regain control over certain state structures. Notably, Nwanosike had previously made controversial remarks about Governor Fubara, referring to him in derogatory terms during political disagreements.

The Rivers State Government's swift denial of the appointment underscores the sensitivity of the current political climate and the importance of verifying information through official channels. As the state navigates these complexities, stakeholders and residents alike are urged to remain vigilant and seek accurate information from credible sources.
