Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko recently addressed the controversial issue of "sex-for-roles" within the Nigerian film industry during an appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast. He emphasized that while it's inappropriate for filmmakers to propose sexual favors in exchange for roles, individuals have the autonomy to accept or decline such propositions. Kosoko stated, "If I said I need you to come and warm my bed so that I can give you this role, and you said no, they cannot force you to do it."
Furthermore, Kosoko highlighted that some aspiring actresses enter the industry with the intent to leverage sexual relationships to advance their careers. He remarked, "I know some ladies that equally come into the industry with the determination that, by the time 'I sleep with this and sleep with that, I will get my name.'"
Kosoko's insights shed light on the complexities of the "sex-for-roles" issue in Nollywood, suggesting that responsibility lies with both industry professionals and aspiring talents to uphold ethical standards.
