IMSHIA CEO Dr. Uchenna Ewelike Engages Nigerian Union of Pensioners Ahead of Enrollment Exercise in Imo State

Dr. Uchenna Ewelike, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA), held a significant meeting with the Imo State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) on Thursday, March 20, 2025. 


The engagement, was aimed at preparing the groundwork for the upcoming physical enrollment of all verified pensioners in Imo State into the state’s health insurance scheme.


The meeting underscored IMSHIA’s commitment to ensuring that pensioners, a vital segment of the state’s population, are seamlessly integrated into the healthcare system. 


Dr. Ewelike addressed key concerns raised by the union, emphasizing the importance of the enrollment exercise as a step toward improving access to quality healthcare for retirees. “Our pensioners have served this state diligently, and it is our duty to ensure they receive the care and support they deserve in their golden years,” Dr. Ewelike stated during the session.


The initiative is part of Governor Hope Uzodimma's broader effort to expand healthcare coverage and alleviate the financial burden of medical expenses on the people, particularly the elderly.


Representatives of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners expressed optimism about the collaboration, commending IMSHIA’s proactive approach. The union’s leadership urged its members to participate fully in the enrollment exercise, highlighting the long-term benefits of being part of the health insurance program.
