At times, in my quiet and innocent moment, I usually give a thought about what would have become of Imo state if God did not bring Governor Hope Uzodmma into Imo at a time He did. I say this because we know where we were before January 15, 2020 and where we are currently. Any sincere observer of the trends in Imo state knew the state of Imo Roads before Uzodimma landed here that fateful day on January 15, 2020 to assume the leadership of the state. We knew the state of payment of salary situation before this Omuma born Political strategist came on board.
We knew all these things. We knew the condition of Prisoners and their years of none payment of pension which today they probably may have forgotten . We knew the unfortunate Scrabble and partitioning of Imo lands and the emasculation of Imo properties through official state government fiat by operators of government then before the arrival of Uzodimma. We knew the infrastructural decay in the state prior to Uzodimma's ascendency to power in the state. We knew how impassable some major roads across the state were before Uzodimma parked into Douglas House. We can remember with a nostalgic feeling how motorists spent frustrating hours and days at Ekemele spot alone with its attendant loss of so many things
Our major problem in this part of the world is that we have short memory. If truly we can have a retrospective reflection about our past and place it side by side with our present in this state under Gov Uzodimma, then I think every sincere Imo person should kneel down and thank God Almighty for bringing Governor to Imo state.
We had a complete collapse of governance in this state before Uzodimma came. There was this cloud of hopelessness hovering around our state with no sign of reprieve in site before God brought HOPE to Imo state. Official corruption was at its peak. There was no single motorable road in the state except for few manageable ones done by Sam Mbakwe and Micheal Okpara. Our situation as a state was bad. Pensioners were owed for years. Civil Servants were not sure of what their actual salaries are and when it will even come and when it comes, they spent hours lying on banking halls just to receive their pay. Their promotion was delayed for 15 years before Uzodimma compassionately released it across board .
The situation in Imo then was generally bad. Though, it is not yet Uhuru in the state as Imo is still work in progress. However, the indisputable truth is that there is a substantial improvement developmentally under Gov Uzodimma. Literally, Imo state that was in coma has been revived and is recuperating very fast after the right dosage of drugs has been administered on her by a professional Physician and leader Hope Uzodimma. Our future is no longer bleak. Our health situation as a state is no longer critical. The Ship of governance of the state is no longer wobbling. Indeed, Imo state has been stabilized.
The usual hue and cry over bad roads in the state is abating Naze Timber Market Traders that suffered bad road for years are now doing thanksgiving. Heavy Duty Trucks and motorists plying Okigwe Roads that had their vehicles usually ditched along Okigwe road are currently celebrating. Ditto Orlu/ Owerri and Owerri to Mbaise/ Umuahia roads. Residents and the traveling public along Mabe/Akokwa/Uga Road that was completely cut off and impassable are today wondering whether Uzodimma cannot be taken as the biblical Messiah that is to come.
Old and sick Imo Pensioners who had given up on the payment of their gratuities which they suddenly started receiving are wondering if they are not in their dreams. These are signs of a leadership with a human face which Hope Uzodimma epitomizes. Imo, clearly would have been worst-off if Uzodimma never came tte time he came.
Truthfully Yours, Nwamkpa Modestus is my name and I approve of this piece.
