Hon. Frank Onwumere, the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Illegal Parks and Motor Parks Supervision in Imo State, has raised alarm over the growing security threat posed by defiant commercial motorcycle operators, particularly undocumented foreign nationals from Niger Republic.

Reaffirming his commitment to enforcing government policies aimed at safeguarding lives and property, Hon. Onwumere warned that the infiltration of these foreign Okada riders poses a serious danger to public safety.

According to intelligence reports, a significant number of Okada riders operating in Owerri Township are illegal migrants, predominantly from Niger Republic. These individuals, he revealed, have been linked to various criminal activities, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and violent attacks on residents.

"We cannot allow our state to be overrun by undocumented foreigners who use Okada as a cover to perpetrate heinous crimes," he declared.

Hon. Onwumere further highlighted that many of these foreign riders lack verifiable means of identification, making it easy for them to commit crimes and evade justice.

"The government will not stand by while the safety of Imo citizens is at risk," he assured.

Beyond violating the state's ban on Okada operations, these riders have allegedly been found in possession of weapons, which they use to terrorize innocent residents. In light of this, he called on security agencies to intensify efforts to flush out these elements before they further endanger the peace and stability of the state.

Since the enforcement of the Okada ban on December 5, 2024, Hon. Onwumere has spearheaded multiple crackdowns, leading to the seizure of 51 motorcycles, all of which were handed over to the Imo State Police Command.

Despite these efforts, some individuals have attempted to undermine the government's resolve by spreading false accusations against him. A viral video, allegedly orchestrated by one Mr. Promise Onyeaghala, also known as "Biggy," falsely claimed that Hon. Onwumere’s office was extorting Okada riders to release impounded motorcycles.

Reacting to the allegations, Hon. Onwumere dismissed them as baseless and a deliberate ploy to mislead the public and protect the interests of those benefiting from lawlessness.

"These are fabricated lies designed by Mr. Biggy to distract the government from its core objective of maintaining law and order," he asserted.

"In my office, we strictly follow due process, ensuring that all actions align with the mandate of the Shared Prosperity Administration, led by our God-given Governor, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma," he concluded.

Hon. Onwumere reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to upholding security measures in Imo State, assuring residents that the government will leave no stone unturned in its pursuit of law, order, and public safety.
