A CALL FOR SOUTHEAST CAUCUS OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO LIAISE WITH THE SOUTHEAST GOVERNORS,TO SEND A BILL TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY FOR NIGERIA TO PAY SOUTHEAST ZONE  COMPENSATION OF N100,000,000,000,000(ONE HUNDRED TRILLION NAIRA) YEARLY FOR 55 YEARS.

Njiko Igbo Forum, a socio-political advocacy group in Nigeria, having carefully considered the confession and confirmation made by IBB from his recent launched memoir  - 'A Journey in Service'; call on the SOUTHEAST CAUCUS OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, to liaise with the SOUTHEAST GOVERNORS,to send a BILL TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY for Nigeria to pay SOUTHEAST ZONE compensation of N100,000,000,000,000(ONE HUNDRED TRILLION NAIRA) YEARLY for 55 YEARS.

This is compensation for the rejection, hate, marginalization, pogrom/genocide and millions killed during the civil war, economic losses due to destruction of properties, businesses, seized properties, etc; which became as result of false narrative created.

It is now very clear that the Commanders & leaders of the January Coup of 1966 popularly known as the "Igbo coup", were:-

- Kaduna Nzeogwu - Delta

- Adewale Ademoyega - Yoruba

- Capt. G. Adeleke - Yoruba

- Lt. Fola Oyewole - Yoruba

- Emmanuel Ifeajuna - Igbo

- Lt. Tijani Katsina - Hausa

- Capt. Gibson Jalo - Niger Delta

- Lt. O. Olafemiyan - Yoruba.

More revelations have emerged, showing that the coup was actually meant to free Chief Obafemi Awolowo from prison and install him as Nigeria’s Prime Minister. it has been confirmed by some of those who were directly involved or had firsthand knowledge of the coup’s planning.

Let’s take a look at some of their testimonies:

What Those Who Knew Said

1. Lateef Jakande, a former governor of Lagos State, wrote in The Comet on January 15, 2000:

“The first coup by Nzeogwu was well-intentioned. The situation in the country had deteriorated. As you will recall, there was a violent reaction in the Western Region against the imposition of the NNDP by the Federal Government.”

2. Major Wale Ademoyega, one of the coup plotters, stated:

“The coup’s primary aim was to release Chief Obafemi Awolowo and appoint him the Prime Minister of Nigeria. The other goals were to end the bloodbath in the West. Since the rigged elections in Western Nigeria, many civilians were being butchered and roasted by party thugs.”

3. Odia Ofeimun, Awolowo’s former private secretary, said in 2007:

“The 1966 coup plotters planned to hand over power to Awolowo. People were told it was an Igbo coup, but that’s not correct. Their plan was to release Awolowo from jail and make him leader.”

4. Oba Olufemi Olutoye, a retired Major-General and traditional ruler, also revealed in an interview with Punch in 2016:

“I knew about the coup. Nzeogwu told me about it in 1964 when we were in India. I asked if he was going to make himself the Head of State, and he said no. He said they would bring in a civilian who was knowledgeable and capable of making Nigeria great. When I asked who, he said the man was in Calabar prison—Chief Obafemi Awolowo.”

In other words, if the coup had gone exactly as planned, Awolowo would have been released and made the Prime Minister.

With the above incontrovertible evidences and testimonies abound, the IGBO must be apologised to by Nigeria, try to assuage them by paying them compensation which no matter how much, cannot be equated with millions of lives lost and killed by during the war and their subjugation for 55years - from 15th January, 1970(when the war is said to be ended) and February, 2025.

In another development, we will not want another memoir written on may be, by Prof Mahmoud the INEC Chairman or President Tinubu when Peter Obi is gone like Chief MKO Abiola is being written and confirmed today as the winner of 1993 presidential election. Peter Obi won the 2023 presidential election and Prof Mahmood should repent and confess.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who rose up to agitate as a result of the advent of the civil war and its effects on the Igbo, should be released immediately unconditionally.

The Igbo, a major partner in the project called Nigeria, have been treated with reckless abandon and ignominy for these 55 long years. Nigeria must have a turn around on them by recognizing that they are an integral part of this great Nation Nigeria, giving them a sense of belonging and Right to exist.
