A devastating accident on the Owerri-Onitsha road in Imo state has resulted in the loss of five lives and left numerous others injured.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, involved a collision between a coaster bus owned by the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Renewal Movement and a tipper truck.
Eyewitnesses recounted the horror as the coaster bus attempted to overtake the tipper, leading to a loss of control and subsequent collision.
Tragically, five victims lost their lives instantly, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Among the casualties were staff members of a Coca-Cola depot, who were struck by the out-of-control vehicles. Despite rescue efforts, some victims remain trapped under the wreckage, adding to the gravity of the situation.
The accident caused significant traffic congestion along the busy Owerri-Onitsha road, exacerbating the already dire situation. Despite attempts to reach officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for comment, their spokesperson remained unreachable at the time of reporting.
The community is left reeling from the tragedy as they come to terms with the loss of lives and the extent of the injuries incurred.
