In a significant move aimed at optimizing port operations and alleviating traffic congestion, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has unveiled a new access policy targeting export cargo trucks. Effective April 22, 2024, the NPA will enforce a revised access window for left-pregated export trucks, with stringent measures in place for non-compliance.
A notice to stakeholders, titled "Important Update: Revised Access Window for Left-Pregated Export Trucks," was issued by the management of Truck Transit Parks Limited on behalf of the NPA. According to the notice, the primary objective of the new policy is to enhance traffic flow efficiency and reduce congestion along port access roads.
Under the revised guidelines, all left pregated export trucks are mandated to access the designated port terminal within 72 hours of departing the Export Processing Terminal. Failure to adhere to this timeframe will result in the automatic deactivation of the truck's access ticket, as outlined in the notice.
Truckers operating within the port ecosystem are strongly urged to meticulously plan their schedules to ensure timely arrival at the designated port terminals. The implementation of this policy underscores the NPA's commitment to fostering a more streamlined and efficient port environment, ultimately benefiting all stakeholders involved in the maritime supply chains.
