The Lagos State Government is actively engaged in discussions with the Ogun State government regarding the extension of the Blue Rail Line to Agbara, revealed Olasukanmi Okusaga, the Director of Rail Transport at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority.

This development emerged during Okusaga's inspection of the ongoing construction of the Blue Line Phase 2 project in Lagos on Tuesday.

The project, currently underway and managed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, is slated for completion within three years, having been awarded in 2023.

The extension project encompasses six stations, namely FESTAC, Alakija, Trade Fair, Volkswagen, LASU, and Okokomaiko, along with the construction of three bridges at Maza Maza, Satellite Town, and LASU, covering a distance of 14 kilometres. Additionally, plans are underway to establish a depot in Okokomaiko.

The announcement comes on the heels of the Lagos State Government's recent update in December, wherein it outlined plans for the completion of the Blue Line Rail project's second phase, linking Mile 2 to Okoko by 2027.

During a press conference commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Managing Director Mrs Abimbola Akinajo highlighted the substantial patronage of the rail system, with 400,000 passengers recorded as of November 29.

Akinajo further emphasized the absence of service delays since the commencement of commercial operations.
