The Lagos State Police Command has made a significant interception of bags containing substances suspected to be Indian Hemp at a jetty in the Ojo area of Lagos.
Confirming the operation, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that detectives from the tactical squad, Ijaniki, made the discovery during their morning patrol around the Ajangbadi area on Wednesday at approximately 4:30 a.m.
Following the interception, the tactical team tracked a white Mercedes Benz mini truck to Ilufe Waterside Jetty, Alaba International, Ojo.
Upon arrival, they observed the offloading of a large quantity of suspicious substances from a flying boat.
Subsequently, one suspect, whose identity has been withheld but is 43 years old, was apprehended. The authorities seized a total of 1,040 wraps of suspected Indian Hemp wrapped in 30 sacks.
The arrested suspect claimed that he was hired by an individual named Ifeanyi to transport the substances from Waterside Jetty to Alaba International Market in Ojo.
Investigations are currently underway, with efforts focused on locating and apprehending the individual identified as Ifeanyi.
The successful interception underscores the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to combatting drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the state.
