Anti-riot police operatives have seized control of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Secretariat in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.
The move comes amidst heightened tensions within the party, with two factions vying for control. One faction, led by Comrade Austin Agade, had scheduled an inauguration ceremony for the zoning committee ahead of the upcoming council polls.
However, their plans were disrupted as anti-riot police officers blocked access to the secretariat as early as 6 am. Confusion ensued as Okada riders, believed to be loyal to the faction led by Benjamin Omakolo, took over the scene.
Governor Hyacient Alia had previously issued a ban on all political activities and public gatherings in Benue State, a directive that remains in effect.
The situation at the APC secretariat remains tense as the standoff between the factions continues.
