COMMISSIONER OF POLICE CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON MOPOL OFFICERS IN IMO STATE

The Commissioner of Police for Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has strongly denounced the recent attack and tragic killing of personnel from Mopol 18, Owerri, allegedly perpetrated by gunmen suspected to be affiliated with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN). In a press release issued by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Okoye Henry, it was revealed that the officers fell victim to an ambush during early morning patrol duties along old Gariki Road in Okigwe. The assailants reportedly targeted the officers' patrol vehicle with dynamite before engaging them in a prolonged gun battle, resulting in the loss of two officers, while four others managed to survive. Upon receiving news of the incident, CP Aboki Danjuma promptly led operatives from the Command’s Special Tactical Unit to the scene for assessment and directed them to collaborate with other security agencies in apprehending the perpetrators. Additionally, he instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Charge of Okigwe, the District Police Officer (DPO), and other Tactical units deployed in the area to intensify visibility patrols, conduct intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts, and ensure enhanced security measures to prevent future occurrences. CP Aboki Danjuma urged residents, particularly those in Okigwe, to remain vigilant and report any relevant information to the authorities. He reassured the public of the Command's unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and pledged to apprehend the culprits and subject them to due legal process. The Commissioner expressed heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the fallen officers and emphasized the Command's zero-tolerance stance towards attacks on security personnel within the state. He reiterated his resolve to ensure that justice prevails and that those responsible for the heinous act are brought to justice.
