Terrorists Abduct 85 Along Kaduna-Abuja Highway, Leaving Several Dead

A harrowing incident unfolded along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway near Katari, in the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where no less than 85 individuals, including travellers and residents, fell victim to abduction by terrorists. The attacks occurred between Thursday and Sunday, January 7, 2024, resulting in over four fatalities among the local residents.

The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the occurrence of a bandit attack on the expressway, specifically at Dogon Fili near Katari. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, disclosed that security operatives engaged the terrorists in a fierce battle, causing the assailants to flee in different directions. Unfortunately, some travellers caught in the crossfire sustained gunshot injuries.

Among those injured were Jibrin Tasiu (27), Jummai Abubakar (20), Zafira Abubakar (11), AbdulKarim Nurudeen (two), Chinedu Jerry Moneke (37), and Ayo James (42), who were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The police emphasized that the incident, while regrettable, was an isolated occurrence as the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway had been fortified for commuter safety. However, on-ground reports suggest that over 30 travellers were abducted, with an additional 55 individuals taken by hoodlums in the nearby villages of Badoko, Dudumishini, and Kwakware.

Yohana Sarki, the District Head of Bishini, urged increased deployment of security operatives, acknowledging the government's efforts but emphasizing the need for additional measures to safeguard the region. Residents recounted the attackers as foreigners speaking the Fulani language.

Despite the military presence along the highways, villages under Sarki's domain continue to face daily attacks. The situation highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region, prompting calls for enhanced vigilance and support for local security agencies.
